Electronics eventually wear out, and then what? Here are a lot of details of where to go with what.
Acceptable for most: small fee only for (computers, laptops, and computer monitors) no fees: servers, televisions, printers, facsimile, scanners, VCR and DVD players, video game consoles, cable and converter boxes, satellite receivers, electronic keyboards, mice, portable music players, holiday string lights, wire, cables, adapters, power supplies, cell phones, modems, tablets, phones, and docking stations. All items should be delivered unboxed and free of excess packaging materials.

Not Accepted: Large appliances, batteries, smoke detectors, electronics from businesses, or hazardous and chemical waste.

State law prohibits the following items from being disposed of in Illinois landfills: computers, monitors, printers, keyboards, video game consoles, scanners, facsimile machines, televisions, stereos, DVD players, mice, scanners, and other electronic equipment. For TVs or computer screens, there will be a small fee to recycle them. $25 for 21 inches and under. Over 21 inches is $35. Payment can be made in advance at http://recycling.eworksesi.org/.
