Financial Assistance

There are two types of financial assistance available from the Township - General Assistance and Emergency Assistance. These Assistance programs provide vouchers for groceries, personal care products, gasoline, rent or mortgage payments, utilities, and other needs.

In addition to these Township assistance programs, we can help you sign up for programs that are funded by partner organizations, like the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and Salvation Army assistance. If you are in need of financial assistance, please schedule an appointment with our Director of General Assistance, Michelle H., by calling (630) 968-2087 or by email at michelles@lisletownship.com. Michelle will schedule an intake appointment over the phone that takes approximately 5 minutes to determine eligibility for our assistance programs.

General Assistance

The Township offers General Assistance to meet the basic needs of individuals for health and well-being. In order to be eligible, a person must meet the financial and non-financial requirements and have no other potential means of income. This is an ongoing monthly grant program with Work Program requirements. Most often, residents that qualify for General Assistance are in process of applying for SSDI benefits and waiting for those benefits to be approved.

Emergency Assistance

Emergency assistance is available to individuals and families to alleviate a life-threatening circumstance or meet a basic need such as food, rent, utilities, prescriptions, or personal care items.  Assistance can only be issued once in a 12-month period to Township residents who meet the financial eligibility requirements. Most often, rental assistance and utility assistance is available when the resident has an eviction or cut-off notice.

LIHEAP

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs. LIHEAP assists low-income households by offsetting the rising cost of home energy through direct financial assistance, energy counseling, outreach, and education. An overdue bill or disconnect notice is not required to receive LIHEAP assistance. This emergency assistance is available to eligible households whose utility service is in danger of disconnection or has been disconnected and for homeowners whose furnace is non-operational or determined unsafe to operate. The dates that LIHEAP is available change year to year. To learn about this year’s dates and income edibility, please visit https://www.dupageco.org/LIHEAP/.

Salvation Army

Funds for the villages of Lisle and Woodridge are issued through the Township. These limited funds are used to meet a financial crisis such as utility disconnection, lack of medication, or possible eviction.
